(Quick note: I am finally on top of the league table, although still tied on points with Leeds and Liverpool. Next update will be end of the season.)
Okay, I got this a few days back but kept forgetting to put it up. I finally completely identified with the chorus of a song! I mean, I've watched the MTV for Beyonce Knowles' Me Myself And I practically everyday on TRL, but one day I finally paid attention to the lyrics and...ta-da, a chorus describing me:
Me myself and I
That's all I got in the end
That's what I found out
And it ain't no need to cry
I took a vow that from now on
I'm gonna be my own best friend
P.S. Something slightly freaky (at least IMO) happened last Wednesday during SS. I was sitting in the middle of the class, trying to understand what the speaker was presenting, when Ms Tan broke in and went into a string of fast gibberish to my already mixed-up mind, something about Venice obviously, and monopoly of trade. Anyway, so I was just sitting there, frowning, with my back turned, when these words popped into my head: "Parlez lentement, s'il vous plait." (Speak slowly, please)
REALLY! That was so damn creepy, I tell you, considering I've forgotten a great deal of what I learnt that last week of December...

Gah! I just realised how FIFA 2003 became so easy overnight - I went to switch the skill level to Beginner! Anyway, who cares? All that matters is I'm currently 2nd in the league tables. I played another 2 to 3 games on Thursday night (yeah, instead of studying...). Results included a 5-1 win over Aston Villa and an amazing 10-0 against Charlton Athletic! Solskjaer and van Nistelrooy actually each managed hat tricks, which means van Nistelrooy has finally scored an average of over one goal per game. Sweet.
Well, my CAs are over. Chinese was pretty good. As good as Jessica Yeo can ever feel about Chinese, I mean. This big group of us went to check out the Perlini's Silver sale at Tampines Mall after that. Shouldn't have waited more than an hour for it to open, really, I didn't fancy anything there and went home straight away. The only productive part of the 'trip' was finding Pilot Spotliter refills at Evergreen Stationery. Okay, so it was only purple and red, and I couldn't find the one I am needing the most (emerald), but it's a start, isn't it?

I didn't play FIFA 2003 last night because I was 'busy' mugging for that horrendous A Math test I took just now. I shouldn't have bothered to study, really, there's no doubt I'm going to fail this term's A Math.
Anyway, I still managed to play on Tuesday night - three games in fact. I won them 2-0 (vs. Newcastle), 3-0 (vs. ?) and TROUNCED Sunderland 6-0, including 4 goals from Ruud van Nistelrooy, who happens to lead the team in goal-scoring with a whopping 13 goals - more than one to every match played. 2nd place is shared by Giggs and Solksjaer, at 8 apiece, so you can see why the 13 is even more remarkable.
But that's not the point of today's blog. I am going to account two funny incidents at school:
(1) 4th period Biology
(Mr Wong walks past Cheryl's desk)
Cheryl: Mr Wong, how about the rat money?
Mr Wong: What bread money?
Cheryl: You know, the dissected rat...?
Mr Wong: (thinks for a while) ...Ah, yes! Rat, rat!
(2) 5th period (still Biology)
AQUEOUS HUMOUR. def. Clear watery fluid that refracts light onto lens and keeps eyeballs funny.

Okaaay, so it didn't exactly work for Liverpool (I drew 2-2) but I was on fire against Arsenal (of all teams, the only person that put up a fight was their goalkeeper). I BEAT THEM 4-0!!! Until now I can't believe it, especially after I checked the full-time match statistics: Arsenal had 0 for everything!!! It was so surprising I couldn't stop laughing. Unfortunately it was also 1.30 a.m. so I had to sleep.
Well, the Bio test today was lousy. I almost didn't see the last page. And why didn't Mr Wong tell us it was our CA anyway???
Part of the reason why I didn't get much time studying Bio last night was because Ana and I spent 1.5 hours on the phone planning our reflections for the CCA presentation. If only we knew the 'judges' would forget to pass us the mics and by the time we got it, Mr Kwok was calling up the next CCA. Oh, well, we get to present it to our Pub juniors tomorrow. (I'm sure there is something grammatically wrong with this paragraph but I don't feel like bothering.)

I find that little 'discussion' down at my chatterbox really entertaining. (btw, I have never said such words to anyone before, but that's just why people underestimate me. Shy little Jessica Yeo doesn't dare speak up? THINK AGAIN.) Anyway, not to dwell on it too much, since it's such a waste of my precious time, why is it I don't know those people who are sticking up for me??? Who's ~lucy~???
Okay. Back to the real blog. I was in a pretty good mood at the beginning of the day, having figured out the in's and out's of FIFA 2003 the night before. I finally realised I accidentally switched the controls for changing players from 'B' to 'L'. (No wonder I really sucked at the beginning). And now that I know how to pass, sprint and shoot, I'm all game. Believe it or not, I actually beat Chelsea 4-3 last night, my team (Man U) having 11 shots and 9 shots on target, to Chelsea's 3 each. I hit the crossbar too many times (the GBA actually simulates the sound!), and my defense wasn't great, but I was much better than before, although for now my only tactics remain as 'Attacking' in the 1st half and 'Moderate' in the 2nd. Plus I switched off the field conditions.
Heyyy, if it worked for Chelsea, it had better work for Liverpool (my next opponent). Don't know when I'll have the time to play, though.

It's over. Finally over. Phew! Luckily I only need to attend the Commendation once. Hehehe. But really, it nearly drove me nuts. The stupid long-sleeved white shirt was enough to kill me, then we had to wear our tie PLUS our stupid blazer. For the first half an hour or so I was stumbling around looking choked up. Then when we marched in, we completely lost the beat at the back. Which didn't exactly matter, since I can't march to save my life anyway. But worse - the VIPs walked in right behind me!
A few times during the ceremony, I was close to hysterics, what with the stupid collar tickling my neck and stuff. When I saw the EXCO standing in front of everyone, I nearly burst out laughing. Why on earth did we need to be so serious on our 'big day'??? Soon enough it was the newly-appointeds' turn. I got to my position easily, went up the steps when my name was called, stared grimly at the bishop as he placed the badge on my outstretched hands, thanked him, then walked a few steps before realising my hands were still outstretched. Then was the long wait for the others' names to be called. I deliberately diverted my gaze from the audience, staring at the rooms above. Then I decided I might look as if I were rolling my eyes, so I stared straight ahead again. I was so close to hysterical laughing I was actually very, very scared. Unfortunately the bishop mispronounced 'St. Hilda's Secondary School' on one occasion and I nearly gave in. Agitated, I dug my fingernails into my palm to distract myself. Then of all things the front of the line took ages to move back to our seats, so by the time I got to the pews again my badge was actually wet with perspiration! I stuffed it into my pocket and began to sing I Would Be True.
As the song was ending, Miss Tan came along the sides snapping photographs. She was aiming at our row when the Mrs Koh called us to sit down. I ducked just as the camera flashed! Haha...spoiled her pic...
During the address I was trying my hardest not to smile. Not successful. Thankfully the bishop was being lighthearted about it and I smiled at the right moments. My last close shave was when the choir came up to sing and their conductor waved madly about with great swooping movements. The rows in front were giggling softly. I almost snorted, then pretended to cover it up by 'coughing'.
The march out was much better, although for a moment I thought the VIPs would walk between our row and the one in front of us, leaving me all the way behind. When I burst out into the sunlight again I was never so relieved.
We were ushered almost immediately to the carpark to take a group photo. At first there didn't seem to be enough space to fit some of us in but eventually I found myself up on the table, grinning at the camera as the sun shone right in our faces. Too bad they had to take so many pics. Then when I had jumped off and was heading away, the teachers wanted the seniors (Sec 4s) to take another few photos, so I had to hop on again.
By the time I got to the canteen I was starving, but I had to hurry through my meal and join 4A at the pond to pose for more pics. After that the CCA Council came over and we posed for even more pics. In all of the pics I was in the back row, tip toeing, as the others posed in front. (If ever I thought the guys were on ecstasy, that was definitely it. Maybe they were near hysterics in the chapel too.)
Once those pics were taken, I left the school. (In case they wanted to take some more!)

I realise this blog has been lacking in updates. I shall make no apology, however, so forget it. But if you want an explanation, I've been busy all week. I mean ALL week. Which is ironic (but far from funny) because I had been looking forward to this test-free week. Well, look, I stayed back in school everyday this week, two days to rehearse the Student Council Commendation, which will be held tomorrow afternoon (after our CA in the morning!). Then, in what is left of Saturday and Sunday, I have to finish my ton of homework, a >1200 word essay, studying for a Biology test on Tuesday and SS Test on Friday. But that's not all - my Chinese CA is next Saturday!
Honestly, I nearly had a breakdown last night when I realised this.
ANYWAY, what's been up this week?
1) Mrs Gan switched our places again. Now I'm sitting in between YQ and Cheryl in the back row. Cool. Considering the three of us have been classmates since Sec 1, it's odd I've never sat near YQ before.
2) Cheryl has been oogling at this Sec 3 (boy) councillor's fingers.
3) I was caught sleeping during assembly by the guest speaker! Well, I was facing downwards but I was awake when he joked about it in front of everyone, but I don't know if he knew I was really sleeping before that.
4) Our class had our first debate with 3A yesterday during Homeroom. We got to the AVA Theatrette first, and tried "filling" up all the rows so our juniors wouldn't have any place to sit. Then when 3A finally came in, we started a cheer, "4A! (clap)(clap) 4A! (clap)(clap)" Of course, 3A did the same thing back. WH actually jumped on one of the tables with his hands raised, roaring like some idiot. Needless to say, it took a long time for Mrs Gan to calm us down. Then, 3A (minus the debaters) were called to the hall, and we yelled "sadly", "Bye bye!" After the door closed we burst out laughing again.
Well, it was no surprise the 3A debaters felt pressured. The motion was "EQ is better than IQ" and they were the proposition. When the floor was allowed to fire, the teachers fired at the 4A debaters while we came up with questions that would stump them. I stumbled across my question completely by accident. Amos (3A's second speaker, also the CCA Council's Vice-Head) had given the example that Bill Gates was a school dropout but yet managed to become a billionaire. Cheryl turned to ask me about it and I remarked, innocently, "But he's a genius." So that's how I ended up being cheered by my rowdier-than-usual classmates as I stood up and shot back at Amos. It was the second time he had been asked a question and really, if I could have it any other way, I wished he wasn't the one who had brought up the point, because he's such a nice guy and great Vice-Head and stuff. After school we had another Commendation practice and he walked around clutching the pole with the school flag on it, and I kept avoiding him in case he realised its potential as a weapon.
I don't know when's the next debate, but YQ keeps talking about her sister being one of the debaters. If I can I will think up of the most evil question. Go blame her for what she did after the practice on Thursday. Gosh, have I never been more glad not to be friends with her anymore.
5) Rumour: There's a gay in our class! Okay, so a lot of the guys tend to act gay around each other, but really, that makes it all the more harder to find the real gay. Just now when Cheryl, WK and I were drinking bubble tea across the road (I had to treat him and call off my treat from Cheryl after both of them helped rescue my purple marker. Long story.), she asked him and we went through some of the guys' names. It turned into a discussion on some of our classmates, actually, but we didn't come to a conclusion. (And yes, Cheryl did ask if WK was the one.)

I'm just updating today for the sake of making it look like I'm actually maintaining this blog regularly. (Oops, I guess I just let the cat out of the bag)
P.S. Chingx (hehe), if you're reading this, guess whose birthday it is today...
Anyway, it's the usual sunny (ugh) Sunday (ugh) afternoon and I am in my usual grumpy mood for falling asleep at 1.25 a.m. yesterday. I only get ONE LATE NIGHT this week, and I actually slept earlier than on Friday night! Okay, even though Friday was by choice; I didn't have anything to study for EL and SS ('cept the formats of source-based answers), so I decided to go touch up my Learning Journeys reflection. 'Touch up' meaning spending almost two hours looking up on...err, never mind. [When the time comes (and it won't be too soon, as in NOT in the next year or so) you'll either witness me bawling or bouncing off the ceiling because of it. Let's hope it's the latter, okay?]
It's not that all my other nights have gone this way. Normally I finish my homework around eleven or twelve, ten-thirty if I'm lucky (not necessarily fast). My mum says it's because I have the TV on the whole time, from MTV Most Wanted to TRL to blah, blah, blah and whatnot. Especially on Mondays, because Discovery Channel always overdoes itself on that day. Well, it's fantastic everyday actually, just that machines and science don't interest me much - only Monday's history programmes do. Then there's the fact I nap until seven or eight every evening...
Yep, I can see why I'm so unproductive academic-wise. But I've been trying lately, if anyone has bothered to notice. For example, last night during the MTV Asia Awards 2004, I multi-tasked by solving the riddle on 'How To Express Stupid Vectors As Even Stupider Column Vectors' during breaks and times when the show got too boring/lame. Even with my experience in multi-tasking, it still took ages to figure the whole thing out. The textbook didn't help either. One sentence was particularly grating: Have you figured out how the column vectors are written down? Hello, you didn't even tell us how! (Note to writer of textbook: Yeah, we know you're brilliant at Math and can boast about it, but not everyone, in case you haven't realised, is mathematically-inclined!!!)
Ack. One and a half hours online. Better get off.

Aww, look, Valentine's Day.
Like I care.
Anyway, even if I don't, you'd think the school had better things to do than set our first CAs today. As if it's not enough I seem to be staying back for most of the week this year! (pauses to yawn) So...tired. Even though it was evilly fun walking out of class while the Geography and History students continued with their CA, of course. :P

Woo-hoo! Finally decided to give the class notice board a good read and found the address for our online photo album. Regrettably, the album 'Brainiest Teen' is puke-inducing, but that's not what I want to look at, anyway. There are way too many great pics in there to print!!!
(stops jumping with glee) Well, I decided to blog today after reading my entry poem a gazillion times in school just now. It's nice in an abstract way, if I do say so myself. I'll put it down here, YOU be the judge:
P.S. Yes, it is about our countdown outing...
Remember
That night?
We stood under
Blooming fireworks
Cursing
The poor view
"Damn!"
There's always
That bridge
Next year...
...Right?
Or will we
Just forget?
Would we
Have left
Tonight's memories
Far behind,
As we begin
Our 'new' lives?
We may
Never meet
After that
Yet,
We pretend:
"It's nothing."
Only handshakes
This year
No hugs,
Nor tears:
"Childish."
(But 'adults'
Have feelings too!)
Four years
Down the drain?
Perhaps.
Momentary ignorance?
We will regret.

ATTENTION! We have noticed that the writer of this blog, Miss Jessica Yeo, has been MIA for more than a week. That is not to say nothing has happened during her absence, so since she is too lazy to write, we are going to make her give some comments. After begging her for some time, she agreed to talk about Thursday's dissection class instead of today's cross-country. (Insider reports say she was 45 out of 55 in the Sec 4/5 Competitive Girls' category, so we can guess why she does not want to chat about that)
We now bring you a very short commentary about her dissection class:
"So we got to the Bio lab, right? And the instructor didn't want to tell us if the rats were dead or not. But they were; he demonstrated with one. It was white and stiff and he pinned it to the board and skinned it and revealed the contents of its body and everything. Then we had to dissect in pairs, you know? It was hard enough just pinning the poor rat to our tray. The skinning took ages, but when we were done with that I wasn't grossed out anymore. We cut through the rib-cage and everything, counted the liver lobes, saw the dark red globule that was the heart, accidentally cut a few blood vessels...then we had to measure the small intestine. Apparently our rat's was 104 cm. 104 cm! As I was unravelling the intestine, the fan blew my worksheet towards the tray - rat blood on one of the activities. Finally, after two hours of cutting and prodding, we threw the bodies into a black garbage bag."
Oops. Did we say "very short"?
