I haven't been the slightest bit happy since Saturday, when the CCA Council went for dinner at Fish & Co. (bill came up to over $200, I got a cake to celebrate my birthday and stuff) and then bowling at Safra. The bowling was expensive, but it was the first time I had been there and even though it was raining torrents outside (we had to make three trips with three umbrellas to get everyone into the place) I sincerely had a lot of fun. But that was, of course, the CCA Council, and not the council in general or my class or my lit class or pub...
Never mind. Ignore me. That's what everyone's been doing the past three weeks or so anyway. I don't even know why, so obviously I don't know if it's my fault, though I SERIOUSLY doubt so 'cos - face it - I've been on my best behaviour since before this whole mysterious fiasco started. And since then, of course, whether I'm at fault or not I've been left completely alone. I don't really mind it, actually, it's comforting to know that unlike
some people, I can survive without friends and without the need to stick with other people I wouldn't have stuck with normally, like a total hypocrite. I'm beginning to think this will certainly be an interesting year. Best thing is, all this won't affect me 'cos I'll be outta here soon enough anyway, and next year I'll have completely disappeared from the likes of Simei and the East. Ha ha, everyone.
That was a good piece of unwinding. Must say, though, that expletives could describe what I think of some people at the moment, but I'll be nice about it. Not childish like them.
Ahem. Just came home from Pub. Our first meeting this year but still no sign of whoever will be the new chairperson. I was sitting in my little corner (with the Sec 1s, across the room from my classmates) thinking perhaps the teachers decided to drop the whole chairperson thing since the last two (were there others?) did a mediocre job.
Tomorrow's Learning Journey. Another day no doubt spent in solitary confinement. I'm okay with it, really, I've gotten the chance to think about A LOT of things lately (not to mention cram some studying into all those skipped recesses). I'm starting to believe I really am an analytical person. You won't believe the shocking things I've realised!
P.S. Mrs Gan finally came back! For our first English lesson with her this year, we got to debate. "Better education makes better sports players" was the motion, I was part of the opposition. To be exact, opposition no. 2. Yep, my first debate as a speaker. Couldn't get out of a debate for the first time. I seriously do NOT know why people always assume I'm quiet but am secretly a brilliant debater. I'm not, okay? Even though admittedly I did pretty well today. With the help of Gillian's rebuttal, of course. Certainly must give her credit.

So here I am, gawking delightedly as 'Jessica turns 16 today!' scrolls by on my blog. It sure was worth waiting 80-over days just to see that message! (I wonder, though, what it will show tomorrow...maybe 'WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM??? I ALREADY TOLD YOU JESSICA TURNED 16!!!')
Anyway, just a thought.
In case you couldn't guess, by the way, my fever is gone today. Which meant I was able to have breakfast at McDonald's, lunch at Sakae Sushi and dinner at L'Emozione. The bad part is that I must by hook or by crook, find a way to finish my work by tonight, since I haven't been in the best frame of mind to work since I came home on Friday. Plus I didn't finish my A Math on Thursday, although I don't have it tomorrow so all I need to do is finish my Chinese compo and spelling. Easy? Nottttttttttt. Hello, sleepless night.
So, before today ends, I shall try to enjoy my time as The Birthday Girl - and being older than practically everyone born in 1988. :c)
Happy Birthday to me...Happy Birthday to me...
Heyyyy, you only have your Sweet Sixteen once, y'know.
P.S. I saw my name on the Blogskins Birthday list, too.

I can scarcely call this a happy birthday. Not when my temperature is at 38 degrees Celsius anyway.
Which is extremely odd, because we took our temperatures twice at school yesterday, and both times it was normal (36.5 at 7 a.m., 37.1 at noon). But when I came home, my temperature had hit 38.8!
Unfortunately, yesterday happened to be my mother's birthday, and I was due to meet her in Orchard Road for dinner. I struggled through the second time falling sick on her birthday, and when I came home at around 9-something, my temperature was at 39 degrees! Thankfully when I woke up about three hours later it was back to 37.3. Since then I've had a hard time fighting it down AND get out of having to take anymore medication. It sure stinks, especially since my birthday is TOMORROW.

I have been enlightened.
(stands with arms spread wide)
Honestly.
Now, don't go nattering (don't know if there's such a word, but I like it so I'm jolly well going to use it!) about my absence this past week. I've been busy with all the stupid Sec 1 orientation stuff. At least tomorrow begins Week 2 so I can quit bothering about those little kids. (muhahaha) Speaking of orientation, we just had the CCA registration day yesterday. It was disastrous, for Pub at least. Thanks to my talk last week, everyone avoided our table. Free copies of THE PUB HUB lay untouched. When Mr Chiang told the Sec 1's to go register for their CCAs, ours was the only empty desk. In the end Mdm Wong let us off early and we all grumbled the way home. The problem with being such an elite CCA.
Anyway, what exactly am I enlightened about, you ask? Well, remember (actually, I doubt you don't) that time when I was sure I was going to take 'Media & Communications', majoring in History, in University? At that time I had decided on UNSW, but since I could study the same thing in Singapore, it would be pretty tricky trying to convince my mother to let me go there instead?
Well, I've got a better idea. Now I am either going to take 'Classical Archaeology & Ancient History' or just 'Ancient & Medieval History'. Obviously, in a country with such limited opportunities, Singapore naturally doesn't have these courses. Which means I'll have to go to...ta-da...the UK!
...Which is of course why my mother thinks I want her life for the fees. Plus the course seems 'not practical'. So there are still some things to work out there. I still think it's better to take that than Media & Comm, since the latter means I'll just have to go into media. If I take history, then I can still go into journalism and maybe research writing (something I like the idea of). Not forgetting becoming an honest-to-goodness historian!
Plus-points:
1) I can study Ancient/Medieval history purely, without any puke-inducing elements of Modern History. Nor do I need to touch South-East Asian history ever again. (Just survive for another two years in JC...)
2) Latin can be studied as part of the coursework. Can also study French at the Language Centre. (Don't know about additional costs)
3) The university (either Royal Holloway or Oxford - like I can get in, haha) looks like a castle! Major plus. RH is also near the London city centre although nestled in a quiet area, which I happen to like A LOT.
4) The UK is in EUROPE, if you've been too dense to notice - that means castle tours and whatnot during weekends. (If I have the $...)
5) I get to live on my own, which will both be an interesting experience PLUS I can get started on that novel I was dreaming of...
That's basically the superficial pluses. Don't think I'm old enough to bother about the other factors. The fees are pretty scary, but that's expected overseas anyway. Besides, come what may I will still have SG$10,000 off. And if my father is still working in three years' times, then I should have a free first-class ticket to London.
LONDON!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I was taking my A Levels this year........sigh.........first I must get into a good JC (ACJC perhaps?), then take history, hopefully the S paper (gosh, don't let me die studying all that modern/SG history!!!), after which I must get at least an ABB for the A Levels...
Three years. At this point of time it doesn't seem as much as three years to Pri 6, but there are still two MAJOR national exams to be taken. Argh.
So now I should probably stop daydreaming and go study. First Barrier: The O Levels. Wish me luck, 'cos I desperately need to take History at A Level.

Man, I am in a good mood today. Even made allowances to apologise to her for not being able to attend this Friday's Hildan Torch. Or should I say, I was in a good mood, thanks to a call I just received. I mean, I get through just my second day of school, and all this starts coming?
Ok. I won't elaborate. But I am totally peeved. I know because I'm eating like crazy right now. When I'm angry, I'm really hungry. I was hungry all the time at stupid old Graffiti World, for instance. Hell, let's not talk about that anymore.
About today. I was beyond tired during E Math. Did not absorb a single freaking thing about Loci. The only thing interesting about the lesson was Mr Philip's 'inspirational' talk about dropping A Math, so it won't drag our priorities down when we already know we're hopeless at the subject. Plus A Math is not compulsory for entry to JCs unless you are taking Pure Science, and obviously I've sworn off the idea of ANY Science after my 'O' Levels (basically I'm wasting a spot in 4A taking Bio, but that can't be helped) Honestly, he should've mentioned this earlier or I would have dropped A Math as soon as Sec 3 ended. Then I wouldn't need to do that stupid holiday assignment, plus I managed to pass my finals so I didn't need to take the qualifying test either. He also suggested dropping two pure sciences for combined science, which I would have benefitted from brilliantly if I could take pure history in place of the other subject. But that is certainly not meant to be.
On the other hand, Miss Tan made a definitely NON-inspirational talk about just dropping combined humanities, since after that we would still be eligible to take up Engineering or Nursing in polytechnic.
Very, very helpful.

I am currently sick of everyone knowing who I am. I mean, what I am. I spent the whole of recess yesterday being bombarded by congrats or mutterings as I passed everyone in the canteen, thanks to Mrs Sng's talk. Then as I was dozing off later at the council GM, Mrs Yeoh suddenly said, "Like how we should let everyone know Jessica Yeo is from the student council!"
Err, well, okay. I think I nearly fell off my seat when I heard that. Didn't help I was already sitting at the edge in the first place.
Then just now at the CCA presentation, I was loading my presentation for Pub (of which I finished at 4 a.m. this morning!!!) while Mdm Wong took the mic and proceeded to go on about the whole brainiest teen issue, what a terrific Lit student I am, such an all-rounder, yada-yada. I was cringing as I stared at the screen.
(I suppose now that I'm supposed to be an all-rounder, I had better become one. Hee.)
And I was leaving the general office later, I heard Amos' voice over the mic from upstairs, "Singapore's Brainiest Teen is in which CCA?"
Like, I seriously think the knowledge of that is going to make people want to join Pub...bleargh. Good old sarcasm. My best asset, if I do say so myself.
Anyway, I've updated some stuff today. For example, My.Life is waaaaaaay outdated, and obviously I'm not in 3A anymore. Oh yeah, did you realise the right border of this column is missing? I don't know where it went to, but maybe it's a sign I should change my template after my birthday. The prospect is pretty bleak though, since I always tweak templates a lot and it's such a waste to put a new one and spend hours tweaking it again.

It's the new year! Currently I'm torn between updating on my New Year's Eve/Day celebrations and the first day of school. But I think New Year's sounds better, no?
Well, you just have to hand it to WH, who only told me about it past midnight on Wednesday morning. Thankfully, I'm nocturnal and had just spent, like, 2 hours doing some cloning research, so I managed to call back within 15 min. Admittedly, the prospect of a New Year's Eve buffet/steamboat wasn't really enticing, especially since it was too late to ask my parents, plus Cheryl wasn't going, so I took a long time deciding to go, making up my mind to finish my essay before I left for Tampines...err...later.
Anyway, at nearly 4.30 p.m. I reached Tampines, rushed to Times to buy the Career Guide 2004 (btw, if those are the only jobs Singapore has to offer, then I feel really sorry for myself), then dashed back to the MRT control station to meet up with everyone. Turned out that (including me) only six people were going (WH, WK, ZY, E, YQ). V and H would join us at Marina South.
When we got there, the place was just starting to fill up, so we started the steamboat immediately. The guys basically did all the cooking first while I tried to identify all the different meat. In the end I gave up and ate anything they gave. Of course, by the time THEY settled down to eat, YQ and I were already full so they didn't understand why we could only eat so little!
After that V and H came, H left, and a little past 9 p.m. (whereby we had spent some 4 hours eating!) we decided to finish the remaining food by playing that guess-the-number game. The second time I lost, I protested that the food looked totally inedible, so we all left instead. Haha. :P
To compensate for our looooooong dinner, we decided to walk from Marina South to Suntec City. Which sounds like no big deal, except it took us over an hour, making our way through a park (not without a few photos), then just as we had reached a dead end across the river from the CBD, someone remembered a staircase nearby leading up to the pedstrian part of Benjamin Sheares Bridge! Using our handphones as lights, we found the staircase fairly easily, then climbed up to feel the rush of wind as vehicles sped past us, and enjoy the Singapore skyline. The walk to the slope leading down was pretty long, so we had plenty of time to walk, talk, yell "Happy New Year!" at motorists (a la ZY), and stargaze (courtesy of me, duh).
When we finally got down the slope, we took a winding path that led to the Carrefour side of Suntec. After stops at the bathroom, we popped into the next door cinema to check out movie listings. Which started a looong debate on which movie to watch and when. Suggestions were Love Actually (V and WK had watched it already), LOTR: The Return Of The King (too long - argh!) and Scary Movie 3 (NC16!!! Considering I'm the oldest and still two-over weeks away to that age...). Thus leaving the final choices as Mona Lisa Smile, Ju-On 2 and School Of Rock.
A quick check for screenings revealed that School Of Rock would be shown past 2 a.m., so that was out. I was all pumped for Mona Lisa Smile, which would be at 12.15 a.m. along with Ju-On 2, but some wanted to catch the 10.50 p.m. screening of Ju-On 2. Finally WH, V and I convinced them it would be more worthwhile to countdown somewhere other than a cinema hall, so the final decision was only a coin toss away.
And Ju-On 2 won.
Sheesh. Since we were all divided, not everyone liked the idea, but we forked out $8.50 anyway. Since it was about 11 p.m. by then, we headed to the Fountain Of Wealth where there usually was a celebration every year.
Yeah, no mistake. I said usually, and we found out the hard way that there would be no countdown there that year. Dejected, we climbed up to open air and sat around the dark fountain. A guy came over with a megaphone announcing that the celebrations would be over at the Esplanade. We all groaned because surely we couldn't make it back in time for the movie. In the end we busied ourselves before the countdown (and that was quite some time to kill). WK read his book, I played FIFA 2003 on my GBA SP (with stupid WH telling me how much I sucked at it), the others walked around the fountain following the series of the Chinese zodiac.
By the time we were together again, it was 5 min to countdown and the place was significantly quieter. WK called his parents so we could countdown according to the live telecast time, and when we screamed, "1!!!", nothing was heard from the Esplanade side. WK, YQ and I sang Old Lang Syne until the fireworks started (along with cheers from far away). As everyone shook hands, YQ (as expected) wept at the beautiful sight. After two false alarms, the fireworks display finally ended and we sprinted back to the cinema, bought drinks and popcorn, and headed into the hall.
The movie really started at 12.30 p.m. or so because people kept streaming in after counting down. After A LOT of shuffling about, the seven of us settled down, ZY against the wall, me right in between, and V nearest to the aisle.
I'm not going into a lot of detail about the movie, except it was extremely confusing and lame at times. There seemed to be no plot, the ending seemed completely unrelated to me, but everyone agreed the second story scared the heck out of them. Unanimous at last. I'm still sorry I didn't cover my eyes that much during it, but maybe that was what the director planned because the first story was seriously not spooky (the audience screamed but I found it hilarious), which probably led all of us into a false sense of security. Also just my luck that during the interval between the first and second stories I told YQ I wasn't scared when she asked...
At 2-something, we emerged from the cinema still stunned by the stupidity and irrelevence of the ending. Everyone was still pretty shaken when ZY's dad fetched us home, so of all things they had to discuss REAL haunted houses. When I got home I was seriously freaking out; I took my bath (checking countless times there wasn't any little blue guy around) and went straight to my bedroom to sleep, hoping I wouldn't get nightmares.
Well, good news was I didn't, but I only slept for 3.5 hours. At 7 a.m. I woke up, and about 2-3 hours later spent some time yakking with Cheryl as we packed our bags over the phone. I remembered my incomplete essay (had to rush off the previous day), but was too tired already, and Cheryl wanted to come over to play.
In the end we played Pokemon Stadium II, tried the seesaw downstairs and listed to music on my computer. She stayed for dinner and only went home at nearly 10 p.m. After my bath I was waaaaaay too tired to finish my essay, so I packed it up and headed to bed at midnight.
